5 Things To Do with Your Team (that aren’t rehearsal or service)
Do you ever get out of the week to week routine of ministry? If not, I think you should make that a goal for this year. And I think you should take your team with you! Go somewhere, do something, try something, learn something! Just get out of the routine. That alone has so much potential for growing your team!
Pastor and author Mark Batterson often says, “Change of place plus change pace often equals a change of perspective.” I know that to be true. You probably do as well. So be intentional about it! Go after a change of perspective! Try one of these team outings:
1. Go to a Concert
Concerts are such an easy way to get your team out together! I love them for a few reasons. 1) They’re fun! 2) They take the pressure off of me to keep people engaged. And 3) they’re easy places to grow: Have your team look to their respective musician on stage. Have them look at stage presence, listen for how they play, and look for something they can implement in their own performance.
2. Find a Conference
Conferences are all over the christian world. And for good reason - we all need more education, more training, and more opportunities to connect with other leaders. Try taking your team to a conference! It’s a chance for you to worship together, to hear a speaker other than your pastor, and to gain greater vision for your team and church!
3. Something Fun
All your team outings don’t have to be about growth. Sometimes they should just be because you like being with your team. Go to dinner or a movie or play laser tag or host a barbecue. Just enjoy being together! That will benefit you just as much as a concert or conference!
4. Another Church
This isn’t always easy and sometimes it isn’t possible, but it’s worth mentioning. If your church doesn’t have a Sunday night or Wednesday night service, see if another church in the area does! It’s a great way to build relationships with other churches, learn from other churches, and get a new perspective and ideas for your ministry!
5. Dinner
I know I mentioned dinner when I talked about doing something fun, but I think it’s worth putting here as well. I’m pretty sure food is a universal love language. Use that to your advantage! Buy your team dinner and let the conversation roll. It doesn’t have to be super pointed or intentional. Make the intention to build relationships!
