Ending the Year Well

How do you end your year? The new year is a built in transition point. It’s an easy place close chapters and open new ones. Here are 3 things I like to recommend to leaders when it comes to closing out their year. It’s what I do to close out mine!

1. Share Wins!

Sharing wins is fun. It’s looking back and acknowledging the accomplishments of your team and your church. Get together with your team and look back on the year! Hang out, enjoy each other’s company, and reflect on a year of hard work and ministry. As leaders, a lot of times we’re always looking forward, but it can be so very valuable to look back!

2.  Thank your team!

Your team deserves so much thanks. I can promise you that your team made sacrifices this year. They came early, they stayed late. They gave of their time, talent, and treasure. Thank them for that! (Check out THIS POST for more on thanking your team.)

3.  Take a Break!

I get that not everyone can take a vacation. Sometimes you can’t even take the week of Christmas off. But maybe you can cancel a rehearsal. Maybe you can find a Saturday to sleep in. The point is to pause, to rest, and maybe to reflect more on the year. It doesn’t have to be a long break - just find time to stop. Even if it’s just for a minute. Close the chapter. Then get ready to start a new one!

Closing the year well will help you open the next one well!
