What's working right now?
Can you believe this has lasted so long? I remember talking with my pastor and thinking we wouldn’t be meeting as a church for a week or maybe two. Then thinking, “wouldn’t it be crazy if churches didn’t meet on Easter.” Later I thought, “maybe Jesus really is coming back…” (that one’s a joke… kind of.)
The longer we go, though, the more I’m excited about how churches have responded. We’ve stepped up our game. So many leaders I know are coming up with creative ways to engage their churches in worship (click here for ideas!) and their teams in ministry (click here for ideas!)
Here’s my challenge to you today: TAKE NOTES. Make yourself very, very aware of what your church is responding to. It’s becoming more and more clear that whether we can begin meeting together in person this Sunday or it’s another 2 months, church at home isn’t going anywhere. It works!
Some of you knew that already. Some of you have had online campuses for years now. Others have pushed back on online services, acknowledging they’re a good substitute for church, but can’t replace the real thing. There are actually probably some great arguments for both.
Whichever side you land on, I think we can agree that some of what we’ve learned to do in the last several weeks will impact how we do church moving forward. So, pay attention! Don’t think of what you’re doing as “for now.” Think of it as an opportunity to expand on how you do ministry long-term.
Some of you are having great success with Instagram Live worship nights. Maybe you keep that up. Some of you have launched virtual small groups. That’s something you could keep doing too. Some of you have involved your team in areas of ministry you never had before – that should certainly stick! You probably won’t keep doing everything, but you will keep doing some things. Take notes!
