Idolatry, the Stage and the Secret Place

Let’s talk about idolatry. That sounds fun, right?! Maybe not. But it’s a necessary piece of a conversation about worship. Especially for worship leaders. There are many things that can distract us from what’s most important.

If we’re not careful, we may begin worshiping our own leadership, the stage or the applause of man rather than worshiping God. We should search our hearts often.

That’s what I discussed this week with worship leader, songwriter and author Steph Andrews.

Here are a few of my favorite thoughts from this conversation:

  1. We need to become more and more like Jesus so the earth becomes more and more like Heaven.

  2. The more I’m in a place where I’m seen, the more I need to be in a place of solitude.

  3. Notice who people are becoming, not just what they’re doing.
