There's One Group You have the Opportunity to Minister to More than Any Other
Worship teams tend to balance lot of things. They balance ministering to God and ministering to people. They balance using a talent/gift from God and not being the center of attention. They balance leading and trying to get out of the way. It’s kind of an interesting role. Another thing worship teams have to try to balance is the two groups they exist for. As a team you exist both for your church and for each other. I think sometimes we forget that though.
We tend to focus on being for the church. We’re leading the church. We’re ministering to the church. But sometimes we forget that we should minister to each other too. We have a great opportunity to do that.
I don’t know about you, but as a worship leader, the group I spend the most time with inside my church is my worship team. We’re together for rehearsals, we get to church early together on Sunday mornings, we serve together for services, we gather for special events, we even spend holidays together when there are Christmas or Easter services! I have more of an opportunity to minister to those people than almost anyone else in my church. But I tend to forget that.
I think that’s a common phenomenon: The people closest to us are often the people we forget to minister to. Your team, your family, your friends – they all tend to fall under that category.
So, what do you do?
Get intentional with it. Start asking people if they need prayer. If they do, pray for them right then. Set aside time in rehearsal or on Sunday morning to pray with your team. Reach out to people during the week to see how they’re doing. Let people know you’re there for them!
There are built in times to minister WITH your team – Sunday morning, Wednesday night, special events, etc. But you have to be intentional with finding time to minister TO your team.
Make time to minister to your team this week! It can be as easy as sending a text to someone to ask what they need prayer for.
