Leadership Tip: Tune In to the Needs of the Church

Some of the best leadership advice I can give is to tune in to the needs of those you’re leading.

An easy way to do that is to ask people what they’re praying for.

As a worship leader I’ve found that if I know what my church needs, I know where to lead. That’s more than a cute, rhyming statement. It’s true. For instance, if I know there is a lot of healing needed in my church, then I know I need to lead my church in songs about the healing power of God. If I know there are many people dealing with fear or anxiety, then I know I need to lead my church in songs about God being the victor.

It’s more than songs though: If I know the needs of my church I know how to pray for my church. If I know the needs of my church I know how to serve my church.

Knowing the needs of your church will make you a better leader, it will make you a better pastor; and most importantly, it will make you more like Jesus.

Tune into the needs of the church!
