It's the end of June! How are your 2019 goals coming along?
It’s the end of June! That means we’re half-way through 2019! Crazy! So, I have to ask, how is it going with the goals you set back in January? Have you completed any? All? Some? None?
If it’s all of them, you may need more (or just harder) goals. If it’s some, you’re honestly probably pretty good at setting goals (good job!), and if it’s none… THERE’S STILL TIME!
In January I set a handful of goals both personally and professionally. Some of them had to do with Worship Leader Coaching. Some had to do with my church. Some had to do with my home and car. And I’m happy to say, I’ve completed most of the goals I set in those areas!
I guess I’m bragging a little, but if you remember THIS BLOG POST, you know that I didn’t complete all my goals for 2018. So, I’m excited!
It hasn’t’ been easy though. And if I’m going to complete everything I planned to, I’ve still got a lot of work to do. So, here’s what I’m doing to stay motivated through the end of the year. Maybe it will help you too:
1. I’m dreaming again
Do some daydreaming about what life will look like when the goal is completed. Lately, I’ve been dreaming again about a project I’ve wanted to complete for WLC for quite some time. (I can’t tell you what it is quite yet, but I’ll leak more information soon!) Dreaming helps me to remember my WHY. For me, my WHY is helping worship leaders. And this goal will allow WLC to do that. So, I’m getting excited again!
Ask yourself, why did you want to complete the goal in the first place?
2. I’m looking at my calendar
Be careful with this one – it can discourage you! But don’t let it. I’m looking at my calendar to see what I can move or even delete in order to achieve the goals I’m working toward. The project I mentioned above will take some hard work, so I have to reserve the time! Something Michael Hyatt often says is, “what gets scheduled gets done.” I tend to agree!
Schedule time to complete the goal!
3. I’m dropping a goal.
There’s one particular goal that I’m dropping. In January I wrote down three major goals, three major projects really that I wanted to complete. One of them is almost complete. One is maybe a quarter of the way through. The other has just barely been started.
The one that’s close I’ll finish before the end of the Summer! The one that’s a quarter of the way through is the same goal I was talking about in the first two points, so I’m definitely keeping that! And the last one, I’m pushing back until next year.
The truth is, that last goal hasn’t been a priority for a reason. It’s a fun goal, but not something necessary. So, in order to finish the more important goals, I’m letting that one slide. If I’m able to get to it toward the end of the year, that would be great! But if not, I’ll begin working on it the next time I reassess!
Don’t be afraid to drop a goal off your list!
That’s what I’m doing to stay motivated and on top of what’s important. What are you doing to achieve your goals?
At the beginning of the year I wrote a few posts about goals. This one is called DREAM. ASK. PLAN. CAST. It’s about 4 easy phases of goal setting. If you’re stuck on a goal, haven’t started yet, or need to create more goals you might want to check it out!
